Emily A 905

Grade Female: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 12

Emily is the second born in a family of five children. Her father is not mentally stable and struggles with alcoholism. He is unable to provide anything for the family. Emily’s mother passed away. Because of this, Emily and her siblings moved to live with their maternal grandmother who also cares for another child.

Emily’s first born sibling Remy is learning at Wakula primary in grade 5, the third born Steve is also learning at Wakula primary in grad1 while the last born twins are in KG2 the same school.

Life has not been easy for Emily and her siblings as their grandmother, who is the sole breadwinner, is just a peasant farmer. Paying school levies and even feeding everyone has not been easy for the grandmother. Many times they would be sent home from school for school levies they would stay home for a couple of days before their grandmother was able to pay for them to return. And often they would only take one or two meals and even just porridge for the day if there wasn’t enough food.

Emily was learning at Wakula primary school in grade 3 before joining GGCC in January of 2015. She was selected by the vetting committee after seeing how dire the living situation was for this family. Emily is very happy to join GGCC as this has been her dream all along. She loves the way teachers teach and their commitment. She is now able to get all three meals and sleep comfortably.

Emily loves playing netball. Her best subject is Science and she would like to become a lawyer when she grows up.
