Devoter A. 1261

Grade Female: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 9

Devoter is the youngest child and only girl in a family of six children. She was born in 2005 in Wamai village, Mfangano South location.  Both of her parents are alive, but her father faces some mental challenges.  Devoter’s mother has stayed at home to care for her husband, but the children moved in with their uncle. He has stepped in to take over most of the responsibility for the children despite having 4 children of his own to take care of.  He is employed by the County Council, however it is still only a meager income and often not enough to provide for all of their needs.

Devoter’s eldest brother, David Marindi Josephat completed his grade 12 in 2017. Washington Marindi Josephat is in Form 1. Nixon Ogweno, grade 6, David Ochieng, grade 4, and Dennis Ogweno, grade 7 are all learning at Wamai primary school. Because of the large family and limited income her uncle made, Devoter and her siblings were often sent home from school due to lack of school levies and other scholastic materials.

Devoter was admitted to GGCC in January of 2018 in grade 3 as a needy and vulnerable child. She is happy to join GGCC, a school she has desired to join for so long. She thanks God for this opportunity to have a good education. She is ready to learn and relates well with her peers.

She loves playing football and netball during her leisure time. She would like to work hard to become a doctor.
