School Grade 3

David is the fifth born in a family of seven children. He was born on October 26^th, 2011 in Kiduwa Village in Mfangano West location. His father died in 2019 leaving David and his siblings under the care of their mother who is a peasant farmer. With the meager income that farming provides, David’s mother supplements by burning charcoal, which is illegal in that area. Unfortunately, David’s family has gone without food at times when the seasonal output from the crops was too low. This family has struggled mightily.

Three of David’s siblings, Michael, Clinton and Nancy, have dropped out of school prior to reaching the 7^th grade. They were unable to afford to pay for school and were forced to leave school. Two of them have since gotten married. The fourth born, Weldon Okinyi is learning at Wasamo Primary School in grade 6. Eddy Modrix , David’s younger brother, is in PP2 at Wasamo Primary School. The youngest of the siblings, Lameck, is not yet old enough to attend school. David was formerly learning at Wasamo Primary School in PP2, before being vetted to join GGCC.

David joined in August of 2021 as orphaned and vulnerable child. He was admitted in grade PP2. His mother is so grateful to administration for considering David. She knows that David will receive an uninterrupted education and his basic needs of food and supplies will be met. She also believes this will be a turning point for her family as this is an opportunity for David to go on to secondary school, unlike her older children.  David is happy to join GGCC and promises to work hard to become a pilot in the future. During his leisure time, he likes playing football. David is in good health.
