Charles Wandei was born in 2006 in Masisi Village of Mfangano North location. He is the third born child in a family of 6 children. He lives with both of his parents, who participate in fishing and peasant farming for a greater part of the day to provide for their family. Even though they both work, it has been hard for Charles’ parents to provide for all their needs. Charles missed classes when there was no money to pay to send him or to buy supplies. Not only has he faced physical hardships, but he has also faced mental and emotional challenges as well when living near his extended family. He reports that an aunt was exceptionally mean to him. He is thankful to no longer be in that situation and environment.

Charles’s siblings include Julius Okaka who has finished high school, Wycliffe Ochieng who is in Nyakweri Secondary grade 12, Dan Oreri grade 5, Saline Charles grade 2 and Rose Ogolla grade PP2 all of Nyakweri Primary School. Charles was attending Gingo Primary before joining GGCC in grade 9.

Charles loves mathematics and how his teachers take time to help him understand. While at GGCC, Charles will not miss classes as in his former school. This will help him to concentrate on his studies and be able to achieve his life’s dream of becoming an accountant. During his leisure time, he likes playing table tennis.
