School Grade 1

Cathy is the fifth born child in a family of six children. She was born in 2017 in Lianda Village in Rusinga East location. Her father died in 2021, leaving Cathy and her siblings under the care of their mother. She fishes in order to support her family, but she does not own her own nets or boat, so she relies on other people to find employment. Fishing is not a very sustainable or stable source of income and since the father’s death, the family has struggled tremendously.  Many times, Cathy and her siblings would miss classes due to lack of school levies and the scholastic materials. This hindered her academic progress and performance.

Lizzy, the oldest of the six, is learning in Rusinga Girls in grade 9.  Pius is learning at Lianda Primary school in grade 7.  Clinton attends The Humanist School in grade 5.  Bavon is enrolled at Lianda Primary school in grade 4, while the youngest, Daisy, is not old enough to attend school yet.

Cathy was learning at Lianda Primary School before joining GGCC in February of 2023 in PP2 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. Her mother is so grateful for the chance granted to Cathy, as this is a great relief for her. With the quality education offered at GGCC, she is optimistic that her daughter will go far. Cathy is equally happy and excited about joining GGCC.  

At GGCC, Cathy will not miss classes again due to lack of school levies and this will help her to concentrate on her studies.  Cathy is a Christian and loves attending church services. She is in good health.
