School Grade 8

Bilha is the third born in a family of three children. She was born in 2009 in Uozi village, Mfangano West location. Her father died leaving Bilha and her siblings under the care of their mother. She works as a peasant farmer to try and support her family. This brings in very minimal income and they struggle daily to put food on the table. Most of the time they take only two meals a day. Bilha’s mother has struggled to also pay for school fees. Bilha has had to leave school when her mother could not afford to pay for her fees.  The same is true for her older two siblings who are currently enrolled in the local secondary school.  Both of them are in grade 9.

Bilha was learning at Tree Star before joining GGCC where she was in grade 5. She was admitted to GGCC in January of 2020 as an orphaned and vulnerable child, but moved back to grade 4. She is so happy to join GGCC, a school she has really admired. She likes the GGCC environment which is so good for learning. She has made friends easily.

At GGCC, Bilha will learn without fear due to the interruption of being sent home for lack of school levies. This will help Bilha to concentrate on her academics and hopefully achieve good results. She will also get all three meals daily. Bilha would like to work hard to become a teacher when she grows up. During her leisure time, she like singing and playing games with a ball. Bilha has an ear problem, but otherwise is healthy.
