School Grade 9

Beyonce is the only child in her family. She was born in 2007 in Wamai village, in Mfangano South location.  Beyonce’s mother and father passed on in 2011 and 2013 respectively from HIV/Aids. Since their deaths, Beyonce has been living with her widowed maternal grandmother who is just a peasant farmer.

Beyonce’s gradmother is a farmer, but also depends on income through other small jobs, like selling firewood, in order to provide for Beyonce. Unfortunately, that is not always enough and Beyonce and her grandmother have gone without food. Beyonce’s schooling was second in priority and she often would not have the money or materials to stay in school. She would have to return to her grandmother’s until there was enough money to go back to school. Beyonce’s academic performance suffered greatly.

Beyonce sleeps in her grandmothers’ iron-roof, mud wall house where she shares a bed with her grandmother.

Before joining GGCC, Beyonce was learning at Wamai primary school in grade 2. She was admitted to GGCC in January of 2017 in grade 2 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. She is happy to join GGCC and hopes that her life will never be the same.  At GGCC, she will learn without missing her classes and also get three meals a day.

Her grandmother is so appreciative to God for allowing her join GGCC. Beyonce would like to work hard to become a nurse. During her free time she likes playing soccer and singing.
