Washington O. 1088

Grade Male: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 12

Washington was born in 2005 in Kanyagam village in Gem sub- location. He is the second born in a family of seven children. Both of his parents are alive. His father, who is the breadwinner, is an artist by trade, but is not currently employed and struggles with alcoholism. He is not around much. His mother is a peasant farmer.

Washington’s first born sibling, Collins, is learning at Amoche primary school in grade 8. The third and fourth born, Viron Akinyi and Christine Achieng, are also learning at Amoche primary school in grades 3 and 2 respectively. The fifth and sixth born, Edwin and Vincrise, are learning at Little flower Academy in KG3 and KG1 respectively while the last born, Synder, is not yet school age.

Life has not been easy for Washington and his siblings because his father’s occupation doesn’t bring in steady income. On many occasions, Washington and his siblings would be sent home from school for lack of payment. It would take his father time to make enough money to send them back to school.  And sometimes they would only have enough food for 1 or 2 meals daily.

While at home, Washington sleeps in his grandmother’s house and coves himself with an old blanket.

Before joining GGCC, Washington was learning at Amoche primary school in grade 3.

Washington was admitted to GGCC in May of 2016 in grade 4 as a vulnerable child. He is so happy to join GGCC where the teachers teach well and are dedicated to their work. He says the pupils are also friendly.

He enjoys three well balanced meals daily.

His best subjects are English, Mathematics and Science. He would like to work hard to become a doctor. He loves playing football at his leisure time.

Update Dec 2017-

Washington placed 4th out of 60 students. He loves school because he loves learning. He enjoys the discipline and teachers at GGCC.
