Valencia A. 1734

Grade Female: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 11

Valencia was born in 2008 and comes from Kakiimba Village on Mfangano island.  Valencia currently lives with her mother and father. Her mother is the breadwinner of the family. Valencia’s father does not offer any form of support to her and her siblings. Valencia’s mother does menial jobs including small-scale farming and fishing in order to provide for her children. Valencia is one of 9 children in her family. Before joining GGCC, Valencia faced challenges like being sent away from school for lack of school levies and rejection from her father. She sometimes harvested sand and sold it just to assist her mother with some of her personal and academic needs. Many times her mother would be only able to afford one to two meals a day depending on the availability.

Valencia is the fifth born. Her older siblings include Ronny William who dropped out of school in grade 7, Malik Garibe who has completed Form 4, Sidney who goes to Eagerton University, Deno Otieno of Kakiimba Secondary in grade 11. Her younger siblings are Priscilla and Fidel of Kakiimba Primary and Serena and Joy Ester of Lion of Judah Academy.

Valencia joined GGCC in 2022 in grade 9 as a vulnerable child. Valencia will no longer face the challenges she faced thanks to God’s Grace and Providence. Valencia received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and she said she likes the environment at GGCC and the love of God that is felt among the students and teachers. Valencia likes being a scout at GGCC and looks forward to becoming a doctor when she finishes school.
