School Grade 1

Sylvia was born in 2014 in Kiduwa Village in Mfangano West location. She is the youngest child in a family of four children. Sylvia lives with her father as her mother passed away leaving Sylvia and her siblings in the care of their father.  Sylvia has faced many challenges both academically and socially associated with the poverty in their home. Her father fishes as a source of income but does not own a boat nor fishing nets. He depends on other people’s boats. This does not generate enough income in order to support his family. Sylvia and her siblings sometime have only 2 meals a day, and occasionally only porridge. They have missed school as well when they couldn’t afford the school fees.

Sylvia was learning at Uozi Primary School with her siblings before joining GGCC. Her oldest sibling, Valency in in grade 9, the second born Fidel is in grade 7, and the third born Winnie is in grade 5.

Sylvia joined GGCC in February of 2023 in grade PP2 as orphaned and vulnerable child. His father is grateful as this is a big relief for him. Slyvia is equally happy and excited in joining a boarding school. She likes the school environment, which is suitable for learning. She likes the teachers and her fellow pupils who are so friendly.

At GGCC, Sylvia will not miss classes again due to lack of school levies. She will get all the three meals, which she was missing at home. Slyvia would like to work hard so as to become a doctor in the future. Her best subject is Kiswahili language. During her leisure time, Slyvia likes playing with her peers and singing. She is in good health.
