Joshua Ochieng was born in 2009 and comes from Soklo village of Mfangano island. Joshua is the oldest child in a family of 5 children. Joshua’s father’s name is Kennedy and he passed away from malaria. His mother is Triza, but Joshua currently lives with his maternal uncle.  His uncle does menial jobs to provide for Joshua and his siblings, but this not usually enough to meet the needs of the family. There was often not enough food for three meals a day and paying for school fees only happened when they were able to afford it. Joshua missed classes when they didn’t have the money to send him. This adversely affected his academic performance.

Before joining GGCC, Joshua was learning at Soklo Primary School with two of his siblings, Cyprian and Emmaculate. The other two siblings, Donsilver and Fidel, both attend Othatch Primary School.  Joshua was able to complete the 8^th grade and take the national exams.  Joshua was admitted to GGCC in the 9^th grade in 2022 as an orphaned and vulnerable child.  

His uncle is so grateful to the Lord for the opportunity granted to him. Joshua likes the school environment, which is so conducive for learning. At GGCC, he will not only get a quality education, but he will also get spiritual nourishment. He will not miss classes again and he will get three meals a day. Joshua will be able to concentrate on his academics work towards his dream of becoming an astronomist. His best subject is physics. During his leisure time, Joshua likes playing soccer. He is in good health.
