School Grade 11

John was born in 2007 in Kiduwa village in Mfangano West location. He is the fourth born child in a family of five children. John is a partial orphan as his father passed away due to HIV/Aids. John’s mother deserted their family and John and his siblings went to live with their grandmother, Caren.  Caren works as a peasant farmer to help support the children, but often this does not meet their needs. John often helped his grandmother with the farming which meant he missed school. His grandmother does other odd jobs to supplement, but this family still struggles a great deal. Sometimes they only have enough food for two meals and even then, it may only be porridge.

John’s oldest brother and sister, Wycliffe and Phiona, both dropped out of school before completing their high school education. His brother, Hillary Victor, is attending Nyakweri Secondary School in grade 9 and younger brother, Elvis Okoth, attends Nyalunya Primary in grade 7.

John was previously learning at Uozi Primary School before joining GGCC. He was able to complete the 8^th grade there before gaining admission to GGCC in 2022 in grade 9. John and his grandmother are grateful for this opportunity for him to join GGCC. He will be able to focus on his academics and not worry about the being sent home for past due fees. He will also not have to worry about having enough food. This is a relief to both he and his grandmother.

John likes the school environment, which is so conducive for learning. He would like to pursue a career in law. John likes singing in church and his favorite subject is business studies.
