Fidel was born in 2007 and comes from Soklo village of Mfangano Island. Fidel lives with his father, Johannes. His mother passed away in 2010 from cancer when Fidel was still very young.  Fidel’s father tries to provide for his children through peasant farming, but unfortunately this does not usually produce enough income to support his family. With three additional children, Fidel’s father has faced many challenges in meeting their most basic needs. Providing three meals a day and paying for the children’s education has been difficiult. Fidel has missed school when they could not afford to send him. His father will work additional menial labor jobs to help supplement, but they still struggle often.

Fidel is the 3^rd born child in a family of 4 children. His oldest sibling is Tobias Odhiambo who is a professor at Karega Mutahi Secondary School. Derick Otieno is the second born and he attends Kakiimba Secondary School. His younger sister Ashley Nicole attends Soklo Primary School. Before joining GGCC, Fidel was also learning at Soklo Primary School where he sat for his grade 8 national exams.

Fidel was admitted to GGCC in 2022 in grade 9 as orphaned and vulnerable child. His father is so grateful for the opportunity granted to him to learn at GGCC. Fidel is equally happy and excited; he likes the school environment which is so conducive for learning. While at GGCC, Fidel will get all the three meals a day and he will not miss anymore classes. This will help him to concentrate on his studies and work towards his dream of becoming a nuclear engineer. During his leisure time, Fidel likes playing table tennis.
