Grade Male: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 7

Felix Otieno was born on January 3, 2008 in Kano. He is the third born child in a family of four children. His father died leaving Felix and his siblings under the care of their mother who is a peasant farmer. She has struggled immensely to provide for her children. Because of the high level of vulnerability in the family, Felix’s cousin has taken him in to live with his family on Mfangano Island. Although this situation is a little better, Felix now lives in a home with 11 other children. Felix’s cousin struggles to feed all of his children and provide for their educational needs.

Felix has faced academic and social challenges due to the poverty at his mother’s home as well as his cousin’s home. He has been missed days at a time of school when they couldn’t afford to send him. He has lacked basic needs such as clothes and food. He takes two meals while at home and mostly porridge for lunch. Felix sleeps in a small grass thatched house where he shares bedding with his cousin’s children.

Felix’s oldest sister Evelyne Adhiambo is in grade 9 at Ombaka Secondary School in Kano where she lives with their mother. The second born, Sharon Achieng, and fourth born, Steve Onyango, are in grades 8 and 4 respectively and both attend Nyamasao Primary School. Felix was learning at Nyahera Primary School before joining GGCC in 2022 in grade 5 as orphaned and vulnerable child.  Felix, his mother, and his cousin are all grateful for this opportunity for Felix.

Felix will be able to concentrate on his studies and not fear being sent home and missing classes. He will also get three regular meals a day. He would like to become an engineer in the future. His best subject is Science. During his leisure time, he likes playing soccer. He is in good health.
