Edna was born in 2007 and comes from Wasamo village of Mfangano Island. She is the fourth born child in her family. Her father’s name is Fred and her mother’s name is Benter. Edna currently lives with both of her parents. Edna’s father is the breadwinner of the family. He tills the family land to provide for his children at home and as a way of earning a living. However, he has a second wife and 6 additional children to care for. Working the land just doesn’t produce enough to meet the needs of his large family. In addition to the financial struggles this family faces, both of Edna’s parents as well as herself are struggling with some health challenges.

With the help of friends, relatives and her family, two of her siblings, Tyson and Brenda, have made it to college. She has one sister, Mercy Malowa, that attends Nyabisawa High School and one sister, Marion Malowa, who attends Wasamo Primary School. Wasamo Primary was where Edna attended through the 8^th grade. She scored 308 out of 500 on her 8^th grade national exams, high enough to qualify her for admittance to the high school at GGCC.  

Edna was admitted to GGCC in 2022 in grade 9 as a vulnerable child. Her parents are so grateful for the opportunity granted to their daughter. Edna is equally excited to join a school she has desired to attend. She likes the school environment which is conducive for learning. While at GGCC, Edna will not face the challenges she faced at home. She is sure to get three meals a day as well as not have her classes interrupted when her family couldn’t afford to pay for her to attend. She will be able to concentrate on her academics and she mentioned even being happy about getting access to light to study at night. Edna likes playing soccer and her favorite subject is biology. Edna dreams about becoming a doctor in the future God willing. She will also receive the oversight to help her with her medication treatment.
