Wingfield was born in 2011 at Wakiangata village, in Mfangano North location. He is the second born in a family of three children. Both of his parents are alive, although his mother deserted the family and his father struggles with alcoholism and cannot be counted on to provide consistently for his children. When he is able to work, he fishes in other’s nets. This does not bring in very much income and Wingfield and his siblings have suffered greatly. Wingfield’s father has some health challenges which often makes him sick and weak. Education is also not a top priority for this family. Paying for it was difficult and Wingfield has been needed at home to help with chores and cooking. Well –wishers have been known to help the children when they can. But even with their help, Wingfield’s education has been sporadic at best.

His elder sibling Vincent is learning at Wakiangata primary school in grade 5, the third born Trafia went with the mother.

At GGCC, Wingfield will learn without missing classes due to lack of school levies and scholastic materials.
