Vivian M. 1001

Grade Female: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 11

Vivian is the last born in a family of five children. She was born in 2005, in Nyahera village, Wakula South sublocation, Mfagano south location in Mfangano Division. Her father, who was a teacher at Nyahera primary school, died in 2015 after a short illness leaving behind Vivian and her siblings under the care of her mother. Her mother is a peasant farmer and the sole breadwinner for their family.

Life has not been the same for Vivian and her siblings since the demise of her father. Her mother does not have a steady income to support her family. She often burns and sells charcoal to supplement for the family’s income, but this cannot sustain her family.

Vivian’s elder sibling, Stillon Okinyi, is learning in Kokuro Secondary school in form 2. The second and third born, Gabriel Mwita and Faith, are learning in Reparier and Shalom and both are in grade 7. Brighton Owuor, who is the fourth born, is learning in Nyahera primary school in grade 6.

Before joining GGCC, Vivian was learning at Nyahera primary school in grade four.

Vivian was admitted in January 2016 after being vetted by the vetting committee as an orphaned and vulnerable child. She is happy to join GGCC and promises to work hard so as to achieve her ambition of becoming a lawyer.

At GGCC, she will enjoy learning without being sent home for lack of school fees. Her best subject is mathematics.

Vivian likes playing football.

Update, November 2017:

Vivian enjoys school life better than home life because at home there is no time to study, due to family chores.  She placed 19th in her class of 45 students.  Vivian likes her math class and hopes to be a nurse after she finishes school.  She is saved and attends a Methodist church when she returns to her village.  Vivian is often sick with headaches and cold chills.  In her free time, Vivian enjoys playing soccer with her friends.
