Sylvine was born in 2005 at Mulugala village of Mfangano West location. Her father passed away in 2019 after suffering from cancer. She is now under the care of her mother who is a peasant farmer.

Sylvine has four siblings. The first, Wycliff Ouma, is in his second year at Mount Kenya University. The second born, Yvonne Atieno, is in grade 12 at Wasamo Girls Secondary, while the last born, Audry Akinyi, is learning at Wasamo Primary School in grade 2.

Due to the magnitude and demand of the household, and being that the mother is a peasant farmer with little income, Sylvine was not able to get all of her basic needs met. She missed school several times due to lack of school levies and scholastic materials. While at home, she had to sleep on a mat and had to make do with two meals a day.

Sylvine joined GGCC in January of 2020 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. She will not have to be sent away from school due to lack of school fees. She likes Gethsemane because it is known to be excellent in both academics and co-curricular activities. Her favorite subjects are C.R.E, History and Math. When she finishes high school, she would like to pursue a career in nursing. Her favorite game is soccer. She is born again and received Jesus shortly after starting at GGCC.
