Sylvia was born in 2008 in Sena village, Mfagnano East location on Mfangano Island. She is the oldest child in a family of three children. Sylvia has faced many challenges in her young life. Her father, who was the sole breadwinner for the family, suffered with health problems before his eventual death in 2017. He was unable to provide for his family at that time and Sylvia’s mother did not work.  Sylvia often went without the proper clothes and even meals. She missed school often because her family could not afford to send her to school. Her education was greatly interrupted.

Since her father’s death, GGCC has helped Sylvia’s mother to buy materials so that she can work as a tailor to help support her family. Unfortunately, the store was broken into and the materials stolen. Their mother is again unable to work since she has lost her materials to work. Their struggles have increased.

Sylvia’s siblings includes Fabian Rashid who attends GGA and Meril Talia who attends Lion of Judah Academy. Sylvia was learning in Kakrigu Primary School where she sat for her grade 8 national exams and obtained 301 marks out of 500 marks. With those marks, she earned the opportunity to join the high school at GGCC.

Sylvia was admitted to GGCC in August of 2021 in grade 9 as orphaned and vulnerable child.

Sylvia is so happy about joining GGCC. She and her mother are so grateful to God for the opportunity she has gotten to learn at GGCC. She loves the school environment, which she reports is so suitable for learning. This will help her to be able to concentrate on her studies and work towards her dream of studying to become a doctor. Sylvia also likes the spiritual nourishment and teaching offered at GGCC. Her best subject is Biology.

Sylvia gave her life to Christ when she joined GGCC. She is a member of the Christian Union.

During her leisure time, she likes playing netball, soccer and volley ball. She is in good health.
