Solidad A. 1695

Grade Female: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 5

Solidad was born in 2012 in Yokia village, in Mfangano North location. She is the third born child in a family of five children. Her father was the main provider for the family, but died after a long illness, leaving Solidad and her siblings under the care of their mother. Solidad’s mother participates in peasant farming to help support her family, but often she does not earn enough to meet both the basic needs of her children as well as pay for their education. Solidad and her family have struggled a lot since the passing of the father. Solidad also has a sibling that gets sick often and needs extra medical attention. This is an added burden on the family.

Because of the financial challenges this family faces daily, Solidad has missed a lot of school and thus her academic progress has slowed. The interruption of school is hard on the children. They often only get two meals a day when they are home with their mother.

Solidad was admitted to GGCC in 2022 in grade 3 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. Before joining GGCC, Solidad was learning at Masisi Primary School with her 3 of her siblings before joining GGCC. The youngest has health issues and is at home with their mother.

Solidad’s mother is so grateful to God for the opportunity offered to Solidad to learn at GGCC. Solidad is equally excited and happy to join GGCC, a school she has admired for so long. Solidad loves the school environment which is conducive for learning. She likes the boarding school and the teachers and her fellow pupils who are so friendly. She doesn’t have to worry about what she will eat, where she will sleep or missing classes anymore. She can concentrate on her studies and work toward her dream of becoming a doctor.  During her leisure time, she likes playing soccer and drama. She is in good health.
