Noela O. 1177

Grade Female: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 8

Noela was born in 2005 at Kibwogi Island, Nyamrisra sub location, Kaksingri West Location. She is the youngest in a family of four children. Her father struggles with mental health issues and is divorced from Noela’s mother.

Her oldest two siblings, Frank and Ida, are enrolled in the local village school, Kibwogi primary school, in grades 6 and 5. The third born, Vonney, is in grade 2 at Sindo.

Noela’s mother deserted the family and an elderly step mother, took over the care of Noela and her siblings. Because of the mental health issues Noela’s father struggles with, he was unable to help in taking care of the children. Noela’s step mother is a peasant farmer, but often does not make enough to provide more than one meal a day for the family. The children go out night fishing in order to help provide more food for the family. Unfortunately this activity being at night, does not allow for the children to get enough rest. And is does not produce enough to sell for additional income.

Noela had virtually nothing presentable for her schooling and the teachers sympathized with the situation allowing her to come and go as she needed to. Her inconsistent attendance caused Noela to under perform academically.

Noela’s step mother’s house is a small, mud-walled house. Noela and her siblings share the bedding and do not have mosquito nets.

Noela joined GGCC in January of 2017 as a needy and vulnerable child in grade KG3. She is delighted to be at GGCC and loves the school environment, playing on the swings, and climbing the monkey bars with her friends.

Update, November 2017:

Since coming to GGCC, Noela is flourishing academically, placing 1st in her class of 34! She loves math class and desires to be a doctor in the future.  Noela loves Jesus, and attends a Baptist church when she goes back to her village.  She has eye problems that can be very painful.  In her free time, Noela loves running.
