Moses S. 1169

Grade Male: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 10

Moses is the fourth born in a family of four children. He was born in 2006 in Wakinga village, Mfangano East Location. His father died in 2009 and left Moses and his siblings under the care of the mother, who later passed on in 2010. Extended relatives took over their guardianship.

His eldest sibling, Yvonne, is learning at GGCC in grade 11. The second born, Eurelia, is also in high school in grade 9. The third born, John, is learning at Gingo primary in grade 3. Before joining GGCC, Moses was learning at Sena primary school.

After the death of Moses’s mother, the siblings were divided up among relatives. Moses has been staying with his grandfather who is older and has no clear means to provide for Moses or the others living with them. Paying school levies and providing other scholastic materials for Moses was a big challenge. Moses would be sent from school for lack of payment and often staying out a week or more before he returned.  The family also struggled to provide enough food, often being forced to take only two meals a day.

While at home, Moses sleep in his grandfather’s house on a mat where he shares bedding with the other children.

Moses was admitted to GGCC in January of 2017 as an orphaned and vulnerable child in grade three.  He is very excited to join the school. He loves the school environment, the teachers and especially his new friends. He doesn’t have to worry about having enough food or being sent home for lack of payment.

Moses is a bright boy who would like to work hard to become a teacher. His best subject is mathematics.  He hopes that with God’s help, he will be able to bring change to his family.

He loves playing soccer.

Update, November 2017:

Moses loves school life but he really misses his brother, so he likes being home to spend time with him.  Moses is an excellent student, making 100% in math class.  He dreams of being a pilot after school.  He loves the Lord and attends a catholic church when he returns to his village.  In his free time, Moses loves to play soccer with his friends.
