Millicent O. 1176

Grade Female: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 7

Millicent is the youngest in her family of 6 children, born in Wasamo Village in 2006. Her father died while she was young and left Millicent and her siblings under the care of her mother.

Her oldest brother, David, dropped out of school in grade 7. The next oldest, Denis, completed his secondary education. Brian, the third born, is in grade 8 at Wakulla primary School. The fourth born, Jacob, is enrolled at GGCC in grade 7 and Lorene, the fifth born, is attending Uozi primary school in grade 3.

Millicent’s life has been very difficult since the death of her father. Her mother sells charcoal and fetches firewood on a small scale and does not make enough to adequately provide for the family. The family has only enough for two meals a day and paying for school for 6 children has been difficult. The children have been sent home from school when there wasn’t enough money to cover their costs. Well-wishers and relatives have stepped in to help when they could, so that they children could return to school.

Millicent and her family live in a roofed, mud walled house. She and her siblings share what bedding and mats they have.

Millicent was admitted to GGCC in January of 2017 in KG2 after being vetted as an orphaned and vulnerable child.  She is so happy to join GGCC, a place she has longed to join. At GGCC, she will learn without interruptions and will get the nutrition she needs.

Millicent dream is to become a teacher. Her best subjects are mathematics and environmental studies. She likes to play soccer and in her leisure time at home she plays with the children in the area.

Update Dec 2017- Millicent placed 11th in her class and hopes to be a doctor.
