Meresa Montage was born in 2009 at Wakula village, Mfangano West location in Mfangano Division. Her father died after suffering from TB and HIV/AIDs in 2015 leaving Meresa and her siblings under the care of the mother who is a peasant farmer.

Meresa’s elder biological siblings, in grades 7th, 6th, 5th, and 4^th,  are all attending Wakula Primary school in the village. Meresa’s mother takes care of two additional orphans, one which graduated from GGCC and one currently attending GGCC in grade 8.

Meresa’s mother did not work prior to her husband’s death. She has since taken up peasant farming, selling her produce when she can. Often this is not sufficient to provide enough food for her family, much less meet their educational needs. Meresa and her siblings have been unable to attend school consistently because of the limited income. 

While at home, Meresa sleeps in her mother’s iron roofed, mud walled house on a mat where she shares her insufficient bedding with her siblings. Their home is leaking and leaning over, which requires money that the mother doesn’t have to fix it. Meresa helps her mother with household chores when she is home.

Meresa was admitted to GGCC in January of 2017 after being vetted as an orphaned and vulnerable child. Joining GGCC has been a dream come true for Meressa.  She believes that with God’s help, her life will never be the same again.

She loves playing hide and seek and soccer with her friends.
