Martin O. 1024

Grade Male: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 7

Martin is the last born in a family of five children. He was born in 2008 in Ragwe village, Nyamrisra sub location. His father died after developing severe TB and swollen feet. After the death of the father, Martin and his siblings were left under the care of his mother who is sick. Martin’s house was a grass thatched house and his mother had no stable form of income. The children were unable to go to school for lack of school levies and even feeding them was difficult. Martin’s mother took her children to live with distant relatives.

Martin’s mom has since been able to stabilize her health and look for work on the beaches near her home. She earns only a meager income and still not enough to sufficiently take care of her children.

Before joining GGCC, Martin was learning at Ragwe primary school.

Martin was admitted to GGCC in January of 2016 in KG1 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. He is so happy to join GGCC where he will learn without the interruption of being sent home for school levies.

His best subject is language activity. He has the ambition of becoming a driver in future. Martin’s hobby is molding using clay.

While at home, he helps the mother with household chores such as washing the utensils and fetching water.

Update, November 2017:  Martin says GGCC has changed his life completely!  He has placed 12th in his class of 34 students, and enjoys English clas because he loves learning another language.  When Martin returns to his village on breaks, he attends Seventh Day Adventist church. He loves to play soccer in his free time.
