Koffi O. 999

Grade Male: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 8

Koffi is the last born in a family of five children, 4 boys and a girl. He was born in Kakiimba village, Mfangano North location in 2007. His father died in 2010 after suffering from a long-term illness.  Koffi and his siblings were left under the care of the mother who did not have any form of income.

Due to this family’s poverty stricken situation, the children’s education took a downward turn as they were often sent away from school for lack of school levies and would miss school for a whole week. This family is also known to go without any substantial food unless a well-wisher assists them. Koffi’s mother also faces some medical problems thought to be brought on by the stress of the situation, which has forced her to not be able to work.

His first sibling, Kevin, sat for his grade 12 exams and is currently working in an M Pesa shop at Rodi. Scovia, his sister is learning at Gethsemane Garden High school in grade 11. Derrick is learning at Kakiimba primary in grade 7, while Stephen is learning at Shalom Academy in grade 2.

Koffi was admitted to GGCC in January 2016 as an orphaned and vulnerable child in KG1. The mother expresses her relief since the burden of paying for her son’s school has been lifted.

Koffi joined GGCC from Kakiimba Primary in KG2 where he attained 616 marks, but after going through the interview process, he was found to fit in KG1. His best subject is Science and Environmental Studies. He has the ambition of becoming a teacher.

His hobby is playing soccer.
