School Grade 8

John Kagawa was born in 2012 in Lukoma village, Mfangano West location. He is the only child in his family. His father passed away when he was still young and his mother later abandoned John with his aged grandparents. They were peasant farmers and unable to meet all of John’s needs. In 2018, his grandmother who was a like a mother to him passed away too, leaving his aged grandfather as the only caregiver. Distant relatives step in to care for John from time to time, but primarily he is with his grandfather.

While at home John sleeps in his grandfather's iron roofed mud walled house and shares a bed with his grandfather. He takes two meals depending on the availability. He drinks untreated river water. John helps his grandfather to fetch water and firewood.

John was admitted to GGCC as an orphaned and vulnerable child in 2013. At GGCC, he sleeps well and takes all the three meals daily. John is currently in grade 3. He plays well with his peers and especially loves playing soccer. When he grows up he would like to become a teacher. His best subject is social studies. John has given his life to Christ.
