Hillary was born in 2007 at Takawiri Island in Mfangano East location, Mfangano Division. He is the last born in the family of 4 children. His father died and left Hillary and his siblings under the care of the mother who at that time had no income. She resorted to selling fish in a small scale at the beach market.

The first born sibling, Sheila, is married. The second born, Edwin, is learning at Tom Mboya Secondary school in grade 11. The third born, Harrison, is learning at Sena Mixed Secondary school in grade 9.  

Hillary’s mother struggles to provide for her children. The older siblings had done well in school until the death of their father. The mother was unable to afford to send them on to secondary school even though their grades were high.  The inconsistency with catching and selling fish, causes the mother to struggle with providing sufficient food and sometimes they would only take two meals in a day.

Their home is a very small house and does not have enough room for everyone. The two older siblings sleep out in the neighborhood while Hilary sleeps in the home on a mat and covers himself with a blanket.

Hillary joined GGCC in January of 2017 after being vetted as an orphaned and vulnerable child. He is so happy to join GGCC, a place he has really longed to be.  Hillary is very optimistic and states that he is sure he will become a lawyer. He believes that with God’s help, his life will never be the same again.

Update Dec 2017-

Hillary's mother has been sick and often cannot work. Hillary placed 30th out of 41 students. He loves his science class.
