George O. 1426

Grade Male: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 11

George was born in 2004 in Nyakweri village in Mfangano North location, Mfangano Division. He is the first born child in a family of three children. Both of his parents are alive, but his father deserted the family and the mother is now the sole caregiver for the family.  His mother works all kinds of jobs to sustain the family, however it is never enough. George’s mother would beg the school to let George remain in school until she could find the money. But more times than not, George would have to leave school and it would be a while before his mother could get enough money together to send him back. He wore torn uniforms and lacked the basic school supplies he needed.

In addition to the academic challenges George and his mother also face serious health concerns. Because of the limited income, they were unable to consistently access the appropriate medications and health care they needed in order to maintain their health. It is reported that George’s growth has been stunted because of how sick he has been throughout his young life. And not getting but two meals a day has contributed to his poor health.

George’s younger sibling, Merabel, is learning at Kageno Primary School in PP2. The youngest, Phil Johns, is not yet old enough to attend school and stays home with their mother. Before joining GGCC, George was learning at Nyakweri Primary School where he was in grade 7.

George was admitted to GGCC in January of 2020 in grade 7 as vulnerable child. He is so happy to join GGCC and his mother is equally grateful to God as this is a big relief for her. George will learn without being sent home for school levies and this will help him concentrate on his studies. He will get all the three meals and the staff at GGCC will help to monitor and administer the drugs that George needs for healthy growth. George likes the school environment, the teachers and his fellow pupils who are so friendly. George would like to work hard and become a teacher.  During his leisure time, he likes playing soccer with his peers.
