Ephline O. 1039

Grade Female: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 11

Ephline is the first born in a family of two children. She was born in 2007 in Kakrigu village, Waware sub location, Mfangano North location. Ephline’s father died in 2013. She is now under the care of the mother who is the sole breadwinner. Ephline’s mother has a tailoring machine which is her only source of income.

Ephline’s only sibling, Gloria Nawire, is learning at Kakrigu Mfangano primary school where she is in KG2.

Ephline’s mother has been struggling to make ends meet for her family. What she earns from her work is too little to support the family. Ephline also suffers from sickle cell and the mother has spent a lot on her in terms of medication. Though she has a tailoring machine, she lacks capital to make it a steady source of income.

Before joining GGCC, Ephline was learning at Kakrigu primary school where she was in grade three. Ephline was admitted to GGCC in January of 2016 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. Ephline is a bright girl that after going through the interview process, she was found to fit in the same grade she was in former school. She is very happy to join GGCC, a school she has really admired and desired to attend. She is promising to work hard so as to achieve her life dream of becoming a doctor. At GGCC, she will get all the three meals, sleep well and be able to concentrate on her studies.

Update, November 2017: Ephline is doing well at GGCC and has placed 15th in her class of 45 students.  She enjoys her math class and dreams of being a doctor in the future.  When she returns to her village on breaks, Ephline attends church with her mother and sister.  She loves praising the Lord in church.  Ephline has many health issues in and out of school  She has difficulty getting the medicine she needs when she is at home.  In her free time, Ephline plays soccer.
