Benard was born in 2003. He is the seventh child in a family of eight children. His mother passed away in 2004 and left he and his siblings under the care of their dad who later remarried. Benard’s stepmother also has five children of her own. The stepmother is the one taking care of them as his father does not help much because he struggles with alcoholism. Although Benard’s stepmother works as a peasant farmer, she has really struggled to feed them and also pay school levies for such a large family.

While at home Benard helps his stepmother by fishing in order to help provide food. He sleeps in his stepmother’s house on a mat and covers himself with a bed sheet.

Benard was enrolled at GGCC in January of 2014. He is a hardworking and enthusiastic boy who is ready to study hard in order to become a soldier in future.

Life in GGCC is good because Benard concentrates fully on his studies without any interruptions. He also gets three meals daily. Benard loves playing ball games.

Update, November 2017- Bernard continues to do well at GGCC, placing 9th in his class of 45 students.  He enjoys his social studies class and dreams of being a police officer in the future.  Bernard is born again, and attends a Catholic church when he returns to his village on breaks. In his free time, Bernard enjoys playing soccer.
