Absalom is the youngest in a family of five children. He was born in 2006 in Wakinga village, Mfangano East location. His mother died in 2018 and his father has health problems that keep him from working. He is not able to provide for the family. Extended family has stepped in to provide what support they can.

Two of Absalom’s siblings are married. The third oldest dropped out of school in grade 10. The fourth born completed her grade 12 exams in 2018. She is expecting her first child and is currently living with her maternal grandmother.

Life has been difficult in the last few years, but the death of Absalom’s mother has put an increased burden on the family. Absalom lived with an aunt for a while, but she is also widowed and has 4 children of her own to care for. He recently moved to live with a grandparent, who also some health concerns and struggles to provide for her grandchildren.  

Absalom was admitted to GGCC in January of 2019 in grade 4 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. Both Absalom and his grandmother are grateful for the opportunity granted to join GGCC. He is happy that he will now be able to focus on his studies and work toward his dream of becoming a lawyer. He is assured of the three meals a day he needs to grow healthy and strong and does not fear being sent home for lack of payment. He loves Mathematics and during his leisure time, Absalom, likes playing soccer.
